Abstract
PURPOSE: To let the metal filaments to be stably formed by letting metal float and melt in a hermetic vessel where a nozzle part is isolated then letting the same be jetted out onto the rotating cooling member surface through nozzle orifice.
CONSTITUTION: Raw material metal 4 is sealed into the heating furnace 10 in a hermetic vessel 7 composed of heat-resisting material and inert gas is sent through inlet pipe 12 to maintain the metal in a pressed state. After the metal is let to float and melt by acting a floating magnetic field and an induction magnetic field to the heating furnace, the magnetic fields are cut off and a shutter 9 is opened to allow the molten metal 41 to fall into a nozzle 8. Then, it is jetted out through injection orifice 81 by the gas pressure in the vessel. Next, it makes contact with the cooling surface of a high speed revolving roll 6, whereby it is high speed cooled and an amorphous filament 42 which is continuous is formed. Even when the nozzle part is of quartz base and the metal is reactive, there is no possiblity for causing clogging, breakage, etc. because the passage time through the nozzle is short.
