Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible that any defect at curved section of a pipe is remotely detected by a supersonic probe which is moved by a driver which consists of a drive source for driving in longitudinal direction of the pipe, a drive source for driving in elevational angular direction, and a drive source for extending or contracting a follower arm.
CONSTITUTION: Pivot C on operating arm 23 is at first raised correspondingly to the height of shoulder 31c of pipe 31 by means of motor 10 for driving supersonic probe 15 in longitudinal direction of the pipe 31, and then elevational angle of the probe 15 may be adjusted by means of elevation angle driving motor 11. pulleys 25W27, belt 28W30, and the like, so that detecting face of the probe 15 is brought into contact with inner surface of curved section 31b of the pipe 31. Thereupon, pivot C of the operating arm 23 is elevated along curved surface by means of the longitudinally driving motor 10, and at the same time, elevational angle of the probe 15 is reasonably adjusted by means of the elevational angel driving motor 11 at all times so as to complete detection of defect on the inner surface of the pipe 31.
