Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to use a scanner for a steel tube of any size and also to improve the efficiency and precision of flaw detection by making a probe scan by use of a support mechanism consisting of two scanning units that move around the external circumferential surface of a flange part by turning.
CONSTITUTION: The distance between scanning units 1 and 2 is adjusted by handle 7a so as to bring turning wheels 13a and 13b into contact with the outer circumferential surface of flange part FL. With handle 21, guide axles 18a and 18b are also brought into contact with the flange. With handles 27 and 24, probe 3 is placed in contact with a fixed position. A fixed electric circuit makes pulse motor 15 move a support mechanism around the outer circumferential surface of the tube and pulse motor 31 moves probe 3 closer to or away from flange part FL. Consequently, probe draws a scanning line as shown by the chain line in the figure and from a position signal and flow detection signal from probe 3, fixed data processing can be carried out with efficiency and precision.
