Abstract
PURPOSE:To give excellent wear resistance easily in a short time, by applying a nitride powder and an Al powder by use of a binding agent on the surface of Al or an Al alloy surrounded with a mixed inert gas including N2, by melting the coated part by means of are heat, then by cooling the part slowly. CONSTITUTION:A material to be treated made of Al or Al alloy is coated on the surface thereof with a mixture of a nitride powder, e.g., TiN powder mixed with Al powder in a ratio 5:1 and caked by a binder such as vinylacetate emulsion etc., to form a coated layer 6. Then a mixed gas, e.g., a gas composed of 5% N2 gas and 95% Ar gas, is introduced through a gas-feeding pipe 3, and an arc is produced across the material to be treated 1 and the W electrode 4 and is kept for about 5 sec to form a molten pond 8 in the layer 6. The material to be treated is cooled gradually as it is, thereby improving remarkably the wear resistance of the Al or Al alloy material 1 to be treated.
