Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled superior Al alloy generating no smoke and gas in grain refining by scattering a flux composed of a mixture of molten (NaPO3)6 and Al2O3 over the surface of molten pure Al or a molten Al-Si alloy and keeping them at a constant temp.
CONSTITUTION: (NaPO3)6 and Al2O3 are mixed in a specified ratio and melted by heating to prepare a flux. This flux is spread over the surface of molten pure Al or a molten Al-Si alloy kept at 850W900°C, and they are kept at such a constant temp. for 30W90min. At this state they react with each other at the contact interface, and P in the flux diffuses and penetrates into Al. The molten flux on the molten metal surface is then removed, and the molten metal is cast in a metal mold to obtain an ingot of a P- contg. Al alloy refining the grain size of the proeutectic Si of a hypereutectic Al-Si alloy.
