Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A reactive adenine derivative wherein the 6-amino group is substituted by the group of formula I or II: (R1 and R2 are bifunctional hydrocarbon groups; X is carboxyl, carboxylic acid, or hydroxyl group).
EXAMPLE: N6, N6-Di[(2-carboxyethyl)-thiomethyl]-9-methyladenine.
USE: A reactive intermediate for reacting and fixing compounds, e.g. adenine or adenosine phosphate, having an adenine nucleus, to polysaccharide or high polymers.
PROCESS: The amino group at the 6-position of a compound, e.g. adenine, adenosine, adnosine 5'-monophosphate or triphosphate, having an adenine nucleus is reacted with a mercaptan of the formula H-S-R-X in the presence of formaldehyde under acidic conditions to give the reactive adenine derivative formula I: (the substituted amino group is group of formula I).
