Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An alkaliprotease-inhibiting substance. Elemental analysis, C 58.3%, H 7.2%, N 15.3%; molecular weight, about 600; melting point, 208W 209°C; solubility, sparingly soluble in water, soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide, etc.; color reactions, positive to Leyden-smith reaction, Sakaguchi reaction, etc., negative to ninhydrin reaction and ehrlich reaction; basic or amphoteric; white powder.
USE: Inhibitor of alkaliprotease, chymotrypsin, papain, and fuchsine. Remedy for various shocks, pancreatitis, haemorrhagia, etc.
PROCESS: The objective substance is prepared by culturing bacteria belonging to Streptomyces genus and capable of producing β-MARI, e.g. Streptomyces nigrescens (WT27, FERM-P No.4131), in a conventional nutrient medium under aerobic conditions, adsorbing the filtrate of the medium, e.g. by adsorption chromatography, eluting with butanol, etc., and purifying the eluate.
