NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic substance, bactropone. Appearance, colorless crystals (having no optical activity); decomposition point, 248W250°C; molecular formula, C7H5NO3; solubility, easily soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, dioxane, alkaline water, etc., soluble in ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, slightly soluble in water; color reactions, positive to Fast-blue-B, pentacyanoaquoferrate, ferric chloride reactions, etc., negative to ninhydrin reaction, Red.tetrazolium reaction, etc.
USE: A chemotherapeutic agent useful for the remedy of various infectious diseases. Low toxicity and high activity to inhibit the growth of various bacteria, esp. gram- negative bacteria.
PROCESS: The title antibiotic substance is prepared by (1) culturing chromobacterium BMF34-EG2 strain (FERM-P No.4769) aerobically in a liquid medium, and (2) extracting with a solvent such as ethyl acetate at ≤ph 5, or adsorbing with activated charcoal, or precipitating with a precipitant.
