Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:3-Methyl-5-succinic anhydrous-3-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride I.
USE: A hardener for epoxy resins, a raw material of plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride, and a raw material of polyesters, polyamide or heat-resistant resins, e.g. polyimides, etc. It has a low melting point and omproved solubility in various solvents compared with the conventional aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides.
PROCESS: 3-Methyl-4-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride II is heated under stirring together with maleic anhydride (0.2W5mol on the basis of 1mol of II) at 160W220°C for 2W24hr in the presence or absence of a catalyst to give the compound I.
