Abstract

PURPOSE: Title fiber that is composed of the outer layer of hydrogel and the inner layer of acrylonitrile polymer, thus having latent and sensible crimps, high water- swelling property as well as keeping fiber properties with giving moisture or water- absorbing and water retention characteristics.
CONSTITUTION: Said fiber is composed of the outer layer of hydrophilic and crosslinked polymer and the inner layer of acrylonitrile polymer and/or other polymers and has latent and sensible crimps. It can be produced with advantage by making a high-concentration alkali metal hydroxide aqueous solution of over 6.0mol/1000g or a low concentration alkali metal hydroxied aqueous solution containing over 0.5mol/1000g solution of an electrolyte act on the crimped acrylonitrile fiber to form hydrogel on the outer layer of the acrylonitrile fiber.
