Abstract

PURPOSE: To thoroughly recover iron component in waste slag as high purity iron by crushing the slag; treating the crushed slag with hot water and CO2 to extract alkali at pH 9W11.5; and magnetically separating the residue.
CONSTITUTION: Waste slag discharged from an iron mill is passed through a mixing process, crushed to below 15mm in a crushing process, and screened. The minus mesh is fed to hopper 4 of an alkali extracting process through conveyor 3 and treated with hot water of 80W100°C countercurrently suplied to extract alkali while it reaches discharge conveyor 8 through extractors 1, 2. At this time, CO2 is blown into extractors 1, 2 to recover the alkali as alkali carbonate at pH 9W11.5. The extraction residue is fed to a luppe recovering process, where luppe is magnetically separated with a magnetic separator, classified, and recovered. The luppe is high purity high hardness iron and is effectively used in sintering, a converter, etc.
