Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and recover high quality glass from noncombustible waste contg. glass in a high yield by subjecting the waste to flotation with a cationic capturing agent after pulverizing and by further carrying out magnetic separation.
CONSTITUTION: Noncombustible municipal waste is separated into combustible waste and noncombustible waste by crushing and air elutriation. The noncombustible waste is wet pulverized and sieved to remove concd. metals of juice cans, beer cans, etc. as the plus mesh. Water is added to the minum mesh having ≤2mm grain size to separate and remove slime contg. fine grains of earth, cement, etc. from sediment contg. glass. This sediment is treated with a cation type amine capturing agent having a hydrocarbon group in the alkaline region of 8W12pH to separate and recover glass by flotation. This glass is fed to a magnetic separator having about 500W30,000Gs to separate high purity glass, which is then reused as starting material for glass.
