Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the bandage type optical fibers of high quality with good efficiency by spinning a plurality of optical fiber base materials simultaneously to the optical fibers, passing these to a coating die to aggregate these, coating bandage material thereon and setting the material.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of optical fiber base materials 4 composed of homogeneous quartz bars are fixed and held at one end to a fixing base 3, which is then rotated to simultaneously spin these respectively to optical fibers 1' in a spinning furnace 7. These are then aggregated through a coating die 8 and the aggregate is coated with bandage material such as of silicone resin or other of refractive index lower than that of quartz bars to make an aggregate fiber 11a which is then subjected to baking and setting in a baking furnace 9, whereby the bandage type optical fiber 11 is made. Here, the fixing base 3 and coating die 8 are rotated at an approximately the same speed and the fibers are spun in the spinning furnace 7. The coating die 8 is disposed with the coating die 8 so as to produce the twisting points of the twists of the optical fibers 1' in the coating die 8.
