Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the uniformity and mass productivity of a light communication fiber in structural size by drawing a wire of optical fiber mother material having sequentially coaxially a quartz clad layer doped around a pure quartz core as a center and a pure quartz supporting layer thereon to thereby reduce the diameter of the wire thus drawn. CONSTITUTION:A partial quartz core layer 11 doped with GeO2 or P2O5 and B2O3 or fluorine compound is formed on a main pure quartz core 1, a quartz clad layer 2 doped with B2O3 and fluorine compound is formed on the core layer 11, and a pure quartz supporting layer 3 is sequentially coaxially formed on the clad layer 2 in a manner that the layer 11 coincides at the maximum layer in the refractive index with the core 1 to gradually increase the refractive index gradient from the exterior toward the core 1.
