Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a low loss light transmission line escapable from radiating loss due to ununiformity of the boundary layer, etc. by forming a molten silica film contg. a specified doping agent inside a molten silica pipe and by putting a glass rod core into the pipe followed by melt spinning. CONSTITUTION:Ultra-transparent high purity quartz glass rod core 1 is prepared. The inside of glass pipe 2' is polished optically, and a molten silica film contg. a doping agent is uniformly adhered to the polished inside by a vapor phase reaction method providing a desired refractive index in the radius direction. The doping agent is suitably selected from common doping agents. Core 1 is coaxially put into pipe 2', the refractive index of the inside of refractive index boundary layer 4' is made about equal to that of core 1, and the refractive index of the outside of layer 4' is continuously succeeded by that of cladding 2'. Core 1 and pipe 2' are then melt-spinned with a burner to obtain a light transmission line with little radiating loss due to ununiformity of the boundary layer between the cylindrical core and glass layer.
