Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method of winding glass fibre strands, according to which strands are led to a traverising means via a guide that is disposed in a plane intersecting the running direction of the strands but not along the same straight line, so as to decrease the width of the guide in the axial direction of a tube, whereby it is enabled to improve efficiency of operation and quality of the product.
CONSTITUTION: A number of glass filaments 2 are drawn out of spinning furnace 1, and after applying binder to the filaments 2 by coating means 3, they are formed into four strands 5 by means of dividing shoe 4. In order to lead these strands to a traversing means 6, a pair of guides 10 are disposed with a suitable spacing from each other in radial direction of tube 7, in a plane intersecting the running direction of the strands 5. Each two strands are guided by these two guides 10. With such an arrangement, two groups of strands 5, 5 located with some spacing in the radial direction of tube 7 are led to traversing means 6 at different input angles after the width of strands at dividing shoe 4 in the axial direction of tube 7 is reduced to about 1/2 at the guides 10, and then wound around tube 7.
