Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable almost all of H2 generated by electrolysis to be converted into metal hydride without bubbling by unifying a H2 permeation type electrode and a metal body forming a cpd. with H2 (a metal body capable of storing H2) and by covering the whole surface of the unified body except the electrode part with an electrically insulating material or the like. CONSTITUTION:The surface of H2 storing metal 8 is provided with H2 permeation type electrode film 2 consisting of Pd-Au-Ag type alloy film 8, Pd black film B and Pt black film C. The whole surface of the resulting body except film 2 is sealed with electrically insulating material 9 or hermetically enclosed with electrically insulating container 9'. When this structure is dipped in an electrolytic soln. so that film 2 alone contacts to the soln. as a cathode to induce electrolysis, part of H2 generated bubbles from the surface of film 2 in the form of H2 gas, yet the remainder permeates through film 2 and combines with metal 8 through no gaseous state, forming metal hydride, which is occluded in metal 8. This structure is used as a cathode having a H2 storing part and a H2 donor for a H2-O2 fuel cell.
