Abstract

PURPOSE: To cheaply produce molded glass the expansion coefficient of which changes stepwise by subjecting a borosilicate glass gob to phase separating treatment, crushing and acid treatment after which the resulting two or more groups of glass powder with different separate phase elution degrees are washed, precalcined, recrushed, filled into a container in the order of the degrees, and calcined.
CONSTITUTION: Glass raw materials based on Na2O-B2O3-SiO2, K2O-B2O3-SiO2 or Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 are melted in a crucible, converted into glass by rapid cooling, subjected to phase separating treatment at 600W650°C for about 1W2hr, and crushed to below 1mm. To the raw materials may be added Al2O3, CaO, BaO, or MgO. The resulting glass powder is divided into two or more groups, which are treated with acid for different times. The groups with different separate phase elution degrees are then washed, dried, precalcined to contraction, recrushed, filled into a molding container in the order of the degrees, and calcined at about 1200°C.
