Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce excellent catalysts having high strength by mixing two different compounds, as catalyst components, having different average particle size in a specified range, the compounds being oxides or hydroxides of elements selected from the Group IV to VIII of the Periodic Table, and then pelletizing the mixture and molding it.
CONSTITUTION: There are provided catalysts containing at least one selected from the group consisting of oxides such as chromium oxide, tin oxide, etc. or hydroxides of elements selected from the Group IV to VIII of the Periodic Table. The relatively fine particles, having average particle size of 50 to 400Å, of a compound of an element are mixed with the relatively coarse particles, having average particle size of 400 to 5000Å, of a compound of an element in a ratio of the fine particle to the coarse particle between 10/1 and 1/10. By using a pelletizing-molding machine, the mixture is pelletized and molded to tablets which are calcined. The catalysts thus produced show excellent catalyst activity, high mechanical strength and particle packing density, since any binders are not used.
