Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a diamond fine powder in an abrasive for glass lens or the like from being entirely embedded into a binder by a method wherein an aluminum oxide fine powder and a binder are bound to each other strongly, and the diamond fine powder is supported by the aluminum oxide fine powder.
CONSTITUTION: The abrasive is prepared by mixing the diamond fine powder 3 having a grain size of, for example, about 8W16 microns as a main ingredient, the aluminum oxide fine powder finer than the diamond fine powder 3 and having a grain size of about 1W5 microns and the binder 5 consisting of a polyester resin, then molding the mixed powders and solidifying the molded material. Since the aluminum oxide fine powder 4 and the binder 5 are strongly bound to each other and the diamond fine powder 3 is supported by the aluminum oxide fine powder 4, the diamond fine powder 5 is not entirely embedded in the binder 5 and, therefore, it can function as abrasive grains.
