Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the performance and to simplify the finder construction by specifying the arrangement of a condensing lens and a group of light receiving elements.
CONSTITUTION: A condensing lens 5 is arranged at a position apart from the line joining a light source 1 and an object 3 to be measured, and a CCD 6 is arranged in parallel with the lens 5 and in the vicinity of the focal plane of the lens 5 on a plane containing the light source 1, the object 3 and the lens 5. As a result, the scattered light from a light spot 4, which is generated from the optical beam 2 from the light source 1, is focused through the lens 5 upon the CCD 6 so that its position is scanned and detected by scanning means 7. The position signal of the arrangement of the light receiving elements from the CCD 6 are subjected to a preset calculating treatment with the use of a constant, which is measured in advance by claculating processing means 8, so that the range from a point H to the object is calculated and displayed in a display device 9. As a result, for a short range, this range can be measured with the use of a mechanically stable and simple device. A long range can be measured without any uncertainness.
