Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a composite watertight apparatus which does not wear a propeller shaft, wherein a sliding cylinder which includes a reinforced resin integrally molded with a cap body of superhard material is fitted into and fixed to a propeller shaft thereby the safety factor being improved and troublesome adjustments being reduced.
CONSTITUTION: A resilient diaphragm 2 is associated with a detachable salf-lubricating short cylinder 3, and its outer circumference is fixed to a spacer 15 in a way that its inner circumference of the sliding valve has a gap relative to a propeller shaft. A sliding cylinder comprising a reinforced resin 5 integral with a ceramic cap body 4 is fixed to the propeller shaft by bolts 9. Thus an end surface of the ceramic cap body 4 which will be located outboard and the self- lubricating short cylinder 3 of the diaphragm 2 are forced into contact each other to form a slide watertight apparatus, and due to the sea water pressure imposed on the diaphragm sliding valve 2 from a water lubricating bearing 11 side the slide watertight between the end surface becomes complete, so that the frictions between the ceramics of rapping surface of self-lubricating graphite and between the outer circumferential surfaces around the cap body 4 become minimized.
