Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a cylindrical surface seal of high PV value with a characteristic of high sealing even when not in motion, by providing both together of a sloped groove and a part, without groove throughout the total circumference, in the inner circumferential cylindrical surface of a seal ring that constitutes the seal face. CONSTITUTION:A shaft 3 is penetrated through a casing 1, and to inner circumferential part of the casing 1 is engaged an outer ring 4 to which a seal ring 5 of L- letter shape cross section is engaged. And to the periphery of a tube part 7 is engaged a spring ring 9, with a cylindrical surface 10 pressed to the periphery of the shaft 3. The cylindrical surface 10 constitutes a sliding seal face 11 as the shaft 3 rotates, however, having a sloped groove 12 and a fully circumferentially no groove part 13 at the same time, the fluid in the groove 12 is forcibly press fed by the action of wedge as the shaft 3 rotates, to forcibly lubricate the seal face 11, while with the fluid film in the no groove part 13 becoming also thicker, and a less wear provided in the seal face, thus a PV value and sealing characteristic can be enhanced.
