Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a less surface roughness of the valve stem, and a less wear of the stem seal, by attaching an auxiliary ring to a position near around the valve stem seal, and applying a sliding motion between the auxiliary ring and the circumferential surface of the valve stem at the beginning of use.
CONSTITUTION: A valve stem seal 6 controls a supply amount of lubricating oil to between a valve stem 1 and a valve guide 2, and an auxiliary ring 10 is provided in the stem seal 6. In the point end of this auxiliary ring 10, is provided a scraper or sliding lip 16. The scraper or the sliding lip 16 is made a sliding motion on the peripheral surface of the valve stem 1, with its surface roughness lessened. Accordingly, a lip 7 of the stem seal becomes less worn.
