Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform the sufficient electric braking of a step motor for a timepiece with the minimum increase in the consumed power, by adding transistors of smaller current to those for driving the step motor. CONSTITUTION:Input signals C-F shown in Fig. are applied to the input terminals CIN, DIM, EIN, FIN of the bipolar driving transistors 1-4 of a step motor driving circuit. Other transistors 5,6 are added to the driving transistors. The current of the transistors 5,6 under a base-emitter voltage is smaller than that of the driving transistors under the same voltage. For the turn-off period T1 of all the driving transistors 1-4, pulses H, J shown in Fig. are applied to the transistors 5,6 to short-circuit both the terminals of the coil of the motor to each other to electrically brake the motor for the period when no driving signal is applied to the motor. The increase in the consumed power is thus greatly reduced.
