Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of a power during a low load, by automatically varying an electric current, flowing to the base of transistor TR connected between input and output terminals, with a load current.
CONSTITUTION: Between the base of TR1 connected between input and output terminal, and the earth, TR2 is connected and to the base and collector of TR1, TR3 is connected to detect load current IL. Between the collector of TR3 and the base of TR2, TR4 is connected via resistance R3 and TR4 is applied at its base with control signal C for switching. The application of signal C turns on TR4 and TR2 and as TR2 turns on, TR1 also turns on, so that idling current IB1 will flow to its base. When TR1 is not saturated, the emitter-collector voltage of TR1 rises and TR3 conducts to flow more base current I2 to TR2 via TR4. In this case, current IB1 increases automatically to get TR1 saturated and input voltage Vin appears at the output side with a minimum drop, improving the efficiency of the power source during a low load.
