Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure the steady and high-speed protective action with no consumption of the output current by limiting the signal at the control terminal of the output transistor based on the drain output of MOSFET.
CONSTITUTION: The protecting circuit comprieses n- and p- channel MOSFET. T6 and T7 plus resistance R8∼R11. At the same time, resistance R5 and R6 function as the current feedback resistance of output transistor Tr.T4 and T5 as well as the voltage converting means of T6 and T7. In case the overcurrent is going to flow to T4 due to the short circuit of load RL, T6 conducts with increase of the voltage drop of R5 to limit the base current of T4. As a result, both the collector and emitter current of T4 are limited, thus avoiding the overcurrent of T4. The current to start this limitation can be controlled by varying the voltage division ratio between R8 and R9. So is with the protecting circuit consisting of T7, R10 and R11 with prevention of the overcurrent.
