Abstract
PURPOSE: To establish the color pick up unit avoiding mixed color and having good color reproducibility, by providing the light shielding means on each boundary of the photo detection section adjacent to the solid state pick up elements.
CONSTITUTION: The transfer electrodes 8 to 11 are formed on the semiconductor substrate 6 via the insulation film 7 and with mutual isolation. The light shield 14 is formed via the insulation film so that the channel stopper 12 formed in the semiconductor substrate with diffusion can be covered. On it, the color filter 15 consisting of continuity of the color transparent stripe filters 16, 17, 18 of red R, green G and blue B having different color component is laminated so that the boundary of each filter is in agreement at the center of the shield 14. The signal charge produced with incident light passed through the filters 16 to 18 is stored on the potential wells 19 to 21 independently, and the light incident passed through the boundary of the filters 16 to 18 is shielded with the shield 14. Thus, the occurrence of signal charge which is a cause to color mixing can be avoided.
