Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the excavation efficiency for a bottoming ground by causing structures to float by buoyancy so as to keep the bottoming portions of the structures apart from the bottoming ground and to form an excavation space between the bottoming portions and the ground.
CONSTITUTION: The area surrounded by sheet-pile walls 1 is excavated, and hollow structures each consisting of side walls 4, 5 and a bottom slab 6 are constructed on the excavated ground 3. With water filled in excavation spaces 13, 14, the structures float by buoyancy and the bottom slabs 3 of the structures part from the ground 3, forming an excavation space therebetween, and the ground 3 is excavated down to a new ground 9. After excavation, water is discharged out of the spaces 13, 14 to bottom the bottom slabs 6 of the structures on the newly excavated ground 9, and dotted-line sections 10 are constructed on top of the structures.
