Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the deformation of electrode, to keep the electrolyte stable and to prolong the life of cell by putting a proton-conductive electrolyte, in which a cation exchange membrane is provided, between a pair of gas diffusion electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Phosphorus tungstate powder is put in the metal mold so that the cation exchange membrane is located in the middle of powder layer, and is pressed on to mold the electrolyte. The nickel network and carbon powder with platinum black as catalyst are charged in the mold, said electrolyte is put on it, and above carbon powder and nickel network are charged once more, the assembly is pressed on and molded. In this way, the gas diffusion electrodes, which are the hydrogen and oxygen electrodes, are formed in both sides of the electrolyte. Next, the molded body is held between a pair of frames that form the hydrogen and oxygen gas chambers, its surroundings is sealed with resin to prevent the leakage of gas. By this way, the deformation of electrode can be prevented, the life of cell can be prolonged.
