Abstract
1439756 Metal-air cell LUCAS BATTERIES Ltd 1 Oct 1973 [13 Oct 1972] 47337/72 Heading H1B A cell for a metal-air battery comprises a pair of air electrodes 12, each comprising a catalyst 15, such as carbon, silver/carbon or platinum/carbon, on a porous support 14, such as a nickel mesh, which enclose an electrolyte cavity containing a metal anode 18, e.g. of silver in a porous sheath 19 of polyamide fibre. An additional cavity 22 is provided containing the solute of the electrolyte, e.g. potassium hydroxide, in compacted form 23 so that the electrolyte can be provided by introducing water through opening 24 to dissolve the wafer 23 and flow into the cavity with fibre 19. The air electrodes are secured to a plastics frame 11.
