Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an electrode which stands long use at a high current efficiency, by coating Ti (alloy) with a mixture of prescribed composition consisting of platinum, palladium oxide, ruthenium dioxide, titanium dioxide.
CONSTITUTION: Ti (alloy) is coated with a mixture comprising a ternary mixture consisting of 3W42% Pt, 3W34% PdO, 42W94% RuO2;and TiO2 in an amount 20W40% by weight based on the ternary mixture. This electrode makes it possible to manufacture hypochlorite by electrolysis for a long time at a high current efficiency. The electrode is used pref. for production of hypochlorite by direct electrolysis of sea water, sterilization of service water and sewage, and for preventing adherence of oceanic life.
