Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the current efficiency and durability of a titled anode by forming a specific composition layer contg. metallic platinum, IrO2 and Pd on Ti or Ti alloy.
CONSTITUTION: This anode for sea water electrolysis suitable for electolytic production of hypochlorite from sea water is formed with the coating layer contg. 10W 35% metallic platinum, 30W80% IrO2 and 10W35% PdO on Ti or Ti alloy by wt%. If this anode is used for electrolyzing sea water, high current efficiency is obtainable at low temperatures as well; since the cell voltage is low, hypochlorite is produced with less electric power. In addition, it is sufficiently durable and permits long-term continuous use. Since Ir and Pd are less costly than Pt, this anode is less costly than conventional platinum-plated anodes and the like.
