Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain high quality yellow iron oxide with no unevenness every lot by carrying out neutralization and oxidation of part of charged divalent iron salt in at least two stages when seed goethite is prepared in a seed process.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous soln. contg. 0.3W1.3mol/l of ferrous sulfate is prepared and maintained at 20W35°C in an inert gas atmosphere. By adding alkali, the soln. is neutralized so that 5W30% of the ferrous sulfate is converted into ferrous hydroxide, and by blowing oxygen-contg. gas, the soln. is oxidized until the pH is lowered to 3W4. Alkali is further added to convert 5W30% of the ferrous sulfate into ferrous hydroxide, and oxidation is carried out. After carrying out such partial neutralization and oxidation twice or more the soln. is aged at 40W80°C in an inert gas atmosphere for 0.5W3hr, and then grain growing reaction is induced by a usual method.
