Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the manufacturing cost of a cathode structure by fusing together a protrusion formed at the periphery of an end hat, a cathode end coupled with the protrusion and a terminal portion of a stem lead wire by arc-welding. CONSTITUTION:A spiral cathode 10 is made of thorium-tungsten and has an elongated end portion 11. An end hat 20 is made of molybdenum, which is provided with a short cylindrical portion 21 around the center hole thereof. A spiral end of the cathode 10 is engaged with the short cylindrical portion 21 and the other elongated end 11 of the cathode 10 is inserted in and coupled with a notch 23 of a tongue-shaped protrusion 22 formed at the periphery of the end hat 20.
