Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain fibrous calcium potassium silicate hydrate usable as an ion exchange fiber in a wide range by blending K2O, SiO2, CaO and water in a specified mol% and hydrothermally reacting the resulting suspension under pressure.
CONSTITUTION: K2O, SiO2, CaO and H2O are blended so that starting material charge coefficient T, alkalinity coefficient U and the ratio of X/Z become 1.0W2.5, 0.002W0.04 and 20 or less (excluding 1.5W6), respectively, supposing K2O in the resulting suspension to be X mol, SiO2 Y mol, CaO Z mol and H2O S mol. Coefficients T, U are calculated by equations I, III and aquations II, IV when K salt is by-produced and is not by-produced through reaction, respectively. The suspension is hydrothermally reacted under pressure at about 150W250°C to form fibrous calcium potassium silicate hydrate, which is then separated by filtration, washed, and dried.
