Abstract
PURPOSE: To highten the calorific value per unit weight, by converting low-carbon content, high-equilibrium moisture content and highly hygroscopic coal into lowly hygroscopic coal by rapidly heating the highly hygroscopic coal with high-temperature gas and then, rapidly cooling the heated coal.
CONSTITUTION: In drying and heat-treating highly hygroscopic coal having a carbon content as low as about below 80% (dry ash-free base) and an equilibrium moisture content as high as about more than 5wt%, with high-temperature gas, the coal is rapidly heated to the final heating temperature of 300W500°C, at a rate of rise of temperature, of at least 100°C/min, and then, the heated coal is rapidly cooled to 250°C or below, at a rate drop of temperature of, at least 50°C/min. Thereby, a tar component which exudes to the surfaces of coal through micropores of coal by the action of pyrolysis of coal is not evaporated and solidified to pulg the micropores. Consequently, the high hydroscopicity of the coal is reduced by decrease in the specific surface area of the coal.
