Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the photosensitive picture element pitch of the charge transfer type image pickup device by utilizing one vertical transfer register for the signal charge transfer of a pluraility of photosensitive picture elements. CONSTITUTION:Two-phase clock pulses phiv1, phiv2 are applied to row transfer registers 5a-5d to apply a voltage forming potential well to photoelectrodes 21a- 22b and zero voltage to transfer gates 31a-32b. When a light is irradiated in this state, a signal charge is stored under the electrodes 21a-22b. The gate 31b becomes on state after predetermined time, and the signal under the electrode 21b is transferred to the register 5. The signal charge transferred to the register 5 is tranferred to the transfer electrode 8a. When all charges are transferred to the electrode 8a, clock pulses phis1, phis2 are applied to be transferred to the transfer electrode 8c for storage. Then, the signal charge of the electrode 21a is transferred to the electrode 8a by a similar method in the state that the transfer gate 31a is turned to on state. Subsequently, when pulses phis1, phis2 are applied in synchronism with the clock pulses phiH1, phiH2 applied to the line transfer register 11, the photosensitive picture element charges are transferred to the register 11.
