Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent breaking of a wire, formation of air bubbles, etc. and to enable good joining of glass by coating a metal body with glass materials by a predetermined method; putting the resulting sealing metal body between the joining surfaces of members to be joined; and resistance-heating the body.
CONSTITUTION: In joining of panel 1 and fan panel 2 of a cathode-ray tube obtd. by press molding borosilicate glass, terminal parts 4, 4 of two semicircular 1.2mmϕ metal bodies 3a, 3b made of Kovar alloy are welded to form a circular body. The alloy consists of Ni 29%, Co 17%, Mn 0.2% and Fe the balance. The body is then coated with glass material 5 of the same quality as that of panel 1 to 1.5mm thickness excepting terminals 4, and the coated body is further coated with low m.p. glass material 6 to about 0.5mm thickness to obtain sealing metal body 3. Body 3 is put between joining surfaces 7, 8 and melted by resistance heating with a current of 20W30A to join panels 1, 2. Thus, efficient ans assured joining can be accomplished.
