Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to join glass with a high gas tightness firmly, by forming a coating glass layer consisting of a glass soldering material between the outer peripheral surface at the end of a glass tube and the inner peripheral surface of a metallic cap.
CONSTITUTION: A peripheral wall (8a) formed on a metallic cap (8) is joined to an outer peripheral wall (7a) of a glass tube (7) with a glass joining material (10). The glass joining material (10) is made by forming a glass soldering material (12) on the outer surface of a ring thin plate (11) consisting of a soft metal, e.g. copper, to form a glass coating layer. The glass joining material (10) is placed between the inner surface of the peripheral wall (8a) in the metallic cap 8 and the outer surface of the peripheral wall (7a) at the end of the glass tube (7) and heated to melt the glass coating layer (12). The glass soldering material as the glass coating material layer (12) is molten to wet the metallic cap (8) and the glass tube (7). Thus, the metallic cap (8) is joined to the glass tube (7) gas tight.
