Abstract
PURPOSE:To treat PCB-containing waste materials in a small-scale equipment efficiently by a method wherein PCB-containing waste materials are converted to a molten slag, the waste materials are preheated by the resulting cumbustion gases to evaporate PCB and the evaporated PCB is burnt by oxgen-fuel burners. CONSTITUTION:Waste materials 1 such as PCB-containing electric apparatuse are fed into a melting chamber 5 through a feeding portion 4. The upright-type melting chamber 5 is provided at its lower portion with oxygen-fuel burners 6 arranged along the circumference, and the hot flames of the burners 6 collide with the waste materials 1 to convert the latter into a molten slag. The resulting waste gases flow upward in the melting chamber 5, when they sequentiary preheat the waste materals 1 fed from the top portion of the chamber 5. This preheating evaporates the liquid PCB, and the evaporated PCB is fed into a combustion chamber 11 together with the waste gases. In the cumbustion chamber 11, the PCB in the waste gases is burnt perfectly by an oxygen-fuel burner 12, and the waste gases are directed into an waste-gas treating equipment.
