Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain highly pure glycerine which meets the standards of glycerine as a raw material of cosmetics and has no or little odor, with extremely simple process, by heating a crude glycerine in the presence of a transition metal or an amphoteric metal.
CONSTITUTION: Crude glycerine or distilled glycerine is heated at 50W150°C, pref. 70W100°C, for 10 minutes to 10 hours, in the presence of a transition metal, an amphoteric metal or their compounds. The deodorized glycerine thus obtained has no or little odor, and does not emit odor even by heating under acidic conditions. The transition metal is, e.g. Ti, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Mo, etc., the amphoteric metal is, e.g. Al, Sn, Sb, Pb, etc., and the compound is, e.g. oxide, hydroxide, chloride, carbonate, etc. The amount of the metal, etc. is ≥0.01wt%, pref. 0.1W 100wt% based on the glycerine to be treated.
