Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the liquid crystal element free from any blurring phenomenon around character segments and among the segments by providing the coating film layer of the silane coupling agent having been treated at a fixed setting temperature at the intermediate of a glas substrate and orientation control film.
CONSTITUTION: The solution of the silane coupling agent [N-β-(aminoethyl)-γ- aminopropyl methyltrimethoxysilane] is coated on a glass substrate provided with transparent electrodes of indium oxide and is heated for about 1hr at about 150°C to form the coupling agent hardened film and after the surface resistivity between the element electrodes is made 1012Ω or more, an orientation control film is formed thereon. Next, the resultant upper and lower glass substrates are opposed and the substrate peripheries ae sealed by epoxy resin to form a cell. Liquid crystal is sealed in to this cell to provide the liquid crystal element. Besides the above, N-β-(amino- ethyl)-γ-aminopropyl methyldimethoxysilane and γ-ainopropyl triethoxysilane may be used as the silane coupling agent.
