Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the cost by redressing a defective by substituting picture-element data at an address where the defect of an image sensor occurs by data based upon circumferential picture-element data. CONSTITUTION:Area sensor array 1 of image sensors consists of photoelectric converting elements as many as mXn. By timing signals phix and phiy for X-directional and Y-directional reads, the addresses of area sensor array 1 are selected and through output buffer amplifier 4, a signal is led out. When a photoelectric converting element at address (i, j) is defective, data at circumferential addresses of address (i, j) are written in memory 10 by driving switches Q3-Q7 by timing pulse outputs and when address (i, j) is outputted, the output of gate G5 turns switch Q1 OFF and switch Q2 ON to output data based upon the contents of memory 10.
