Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable accurate detection without any change in impedance characteristic depending upon the thicknesses, kinds, etc. of the material to be measured by using the detecting element composed of the piezoelectric ceramics which is of disc or cylindrical shape, is parallel to the detecting surface and is polarized in the radial direction.
CONSTITUTION: In the acoustic wave sensor which detects the elastic waves (AE waves) generated at the breakdown precursor phenomena of solid material, this detecting element 1 is composed of the piezoelectric ceramics polarized in the radial direction having the polarization direction shown by the arrows and is of the constitution comprising by depositing electrodes 2 on the top and bottom surfaces of this element 1, and bonding the bottom surface to a bottom plate 3 (detecting surface) and housing the element in a metal case 4. The sensor output is led to an output terminal 6 through the lead wire 5 from the top surface electrode. These let the accurate detection of AE waves be done with virtually no effect of the kinds and thicknesse of the material to be measured on impedance characteristic.
