Abstract

PURPOSE:To demagnetize a wound tape gradually and evenly as it is, by arranging upper and lower magnetic poles for magnetic field generation and by providing a magnetic field crossing a tape winding direction. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic poles 12a and 12b are arranged opposite to each other with tape mount plate 11 vertically sandwiched in between and while exciting coils 12 are wound around those magnetic poles, magnetic poles are fitted to yoke 13. Here, the winding center of magnetic tape 14 should agree with the center of magnetic tape 14 should agree with the center of magnetic poles 12a and 12b. Then, a push-button switch is turned ON to feed electric power to magnetic-field generator 16 and a magnetic field is generated between magnetic poles 12a and 12b and performs demagnetization by destroying record on a magnetized tape. In this magnetic field generation, a saturated magnetic field is provided for several seconds firstly by a gradually-decreasing AC current obtained by controller 18 and gradually damped next and the tape is left for several seconds without any magnetic field. Consequently, perfect demagnetization comes into effect.
