Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover selenium at high yield easily in a short time, by heating a selenium photoreceptor in vacuum to evaporate a selenium material and to deposit it on the inner wall of a vacuum vessel.
CONSTITUTION: Selenium or its alloy is recovered from the residual material used as a selenium photoreceptor, and the like by using a vacuum vessel consisting of iron base plate 1 and bell shaped body 2 evacuable with vacuum pump 3. For example, photosensitive drum 4 is placed on support 5 and heated to 200W400°C with a heating body, such as sheathed heater under a vacuum of 1W1×10-5 torr. Selenium or selenium alloy is evaporated and deposited on the inner wall of bell shaped body 2 water-cooled with cooling pipe 7. Such treatment of the selenium material for perfect evaporation has subjected photoreceptor 4 to no force during the treatment, so deformation or the like is prevented, permitting photoreceptor 4 to be reused, and selenium or its alloy to be stripped from the inner wall of the body by giving a heat cycle or mechanical shock and to be available for reutilize.
