Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a foamed and molded piece which has a skin of uniform thickness and whose surface is smooth, by heating and foaming grains of a copolymer of styrene with maleic anhydride to provide the foamed and molded piece and heating the surface of the piece to make the skin. CONSTITUTION:3-40wt% of a gaseous or liquid foaming agent such as propane, butane, cyclohexane, methyl chloride or the like, is added to grains of a copolymer of styrene with maleic anhydride, the maleic anhydride content of which is 2-25 wt% and the average polymerization degree of which is 500-4,000. A solvent such as benzene or toluene for dissolving the copolymer grains is added thereto together with the foaming agent. After the resin grains are preparatorily foamed, they are filled in a cavity 3 defined by a male mold 1 and a female mold 2. Steam of 2kg/ cm<2> or less is introduced into the cavity 3 to heat and foam the grains to make a foamed and molded piece. The surface of the piece is heated to a temperature not lower than 120 deg.C to make a skin on the surface. This results in providing the foamed and molded piece having the skin.
