Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower fuel consumption of engine, by automatically varying the suction-valve opening and closing timing in response to the engine load.
CONSTITUTION: In positioner 2 afforded with input signal 1, a pneumatic pressure line is established by a conventional positioner 2a, so that a cylinder stroke (horizontal displacement) corresponding to the pressure of input signal, i.e., a cylinder stroke corresponding to an indicated engine speed is given by air cylinder 2b. By the horizontal displacement of cylinder 2b, cam 4 is moved horizontally and the displacement is transmitted resultantly to a cam means consisting of cam 4, roller 5 and vertical rod 5a connected to roller 5. Valve opening and closing timing for the suction valve is changed with load by amplifying the vertical displacement of cam 4 by amplifier 6 and causing rotation of eccentric shaft 10 for the suction valve via link 7, horizontal link 8 and lever 9. Thus, an optimal suction-valve opening and closing timing can be indicated automatically in an ordinary ship running load range, and the ships running cost can be lowered.
