Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture an Au alloy watch case with superior mechanical strength, hardness and corrosion resistance by subjecting an Al alloy contg. Ag, Cu, Pd, Pt and other specified metal elements to soln. heat treatment followed by working, surface polishing and aging.
CONSTITUTION: An Au alloy material contg. Au 52W68%, Ag 17W23%, Cu 16W 22%, Pd 1W3%, Pt<5% and Co, Ni, Cd, Zn and Mn each ≤1% is heated at 600W780°C for 5W30min and quenched with water of 15°C or below or liq. nitrogen to perform soln. heat treatment. This material is formed into a watch case by mechanical working, surface-finished by polishing, and maintained at 280W450°C for 15minW20hr to accomplish precipitation hardening by aging, thus manufacturing an Au alloy watch case having a Vickers hardness of 280W320 and high mechanical strength such as a tensile strength of 87kg/mm2 comparable to the tensile strength of special steel.
